Dr. L. Murugan, Honourable Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Government of India
Dr. L. Murugan is currently serving as the Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. On July 07, 2021, he was made Union Minister of State, prior to which he was the state president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He served as the vice-chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) from 2017 to 2020.
He was born on May 29, 1977, in Konur, Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu. He was born to Smt. L Varudammal and Sh. Loganathan.
He received his law degree from the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law College in Chennai, as well as his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Madras. He joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and, afterwards, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1997 after being inspired by Hindutva philosophy. He has practiced law for at least 15 years also serving as the Standing Counsel to the Government of India at Madras High Court. He has testified as a lawyer for the BJP in a number of trials.
While a member of the RSS, he held the position of national general secretary for the Schedule Caste division. On March 12, 2020, he was made chief of the BJP Tamil Nadu unit. He is the first from the Arunthathiyar community to hold the post.
He is a member of the Rajya Sabha, representing Madhya Pradesh.
