About FFO

FFO Promotional Film

India, a land of stories and a melting pot of emotions, narrates itself through breath-taking landscapes. It expresses itself via age-old, man-made splendours like the Taj Mahal, the mythological narratives at the Ghats of River Ganges, and the cultural clans of the Seven Sisters in the North-East of India. Leveraging the country’s diversity becomes imperative while achieving creative collaborations on a global scale. It is more so when it comes to collating and managing filmic resources on ground, available within the country. This is where a structured body like the Film Facilitation Office (FFO) comes in.

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, set up the Film Facilitation Office (FFO) in National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) with a view to promote and facilitate film shootings by foreign and domestic filmmakers in India. The FFO acts as a single window clearance and facilitation mechanism that eases filming in India, as well as endeavours to create a film-friendly ecosystem and promote the country as a filming destination. The FFO has set up its web portal www.ffo.gov.in to enable online submission of applications from both domestic and international filmmakers.

Proposals regarding shooting of international Feature Films, TV/Web shows and series & Reality TV/Web shows and series in India are handled by the FFO, which processes the request and takes a decision within a specific time frame. However, permissions for shooting in border areas will take longer due to security reasons. Once the Ministry of I&B approves a project proposal, Indian Missions abroad grant Film Visa [F] to the project team.

Permissions for locations that fall within the jurisdiction of various State Governments or key Central Government Agencies such as ASI, Railways, etc. sought by Domestic and International Filmmakers, are processed and issued by respective State Nodal officers, whose details are also shared with the applicant. The FFO facilitates accordance of these permissions.

In an endeavour to enable permissions in a time bound manner along with the necessary on-ground facilitation, an ecosystem of Nodal Officers has been created across various State Governments and key stakeholder Central Government Ministries / Departments, who can access all applications from filmmakers seeking permission to shoot in their respective jurisdiction. This ecology has further enabled effective governmental collaborations at the policy level as well at the ground level, towards the creation of a film friendly environment.

Coming to India, a filmmaker comes home to his imagination.
