  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the two-day UP Investors summit in Lucknow tomorrow.The summit aims to generate 10 lakh jobs in the next five years.



  • The Enforcement Directorate today said it had notified all the land, sea and airports in the country to prevent the exit of the promoter of Rotomac pens, Vikram Kothari, and his family members from the country in a loan case. The notice has been issued in connection with its money laundering probe into an alleged bank loan fraud of 3,695 crore rupees.



  • University Grants Commission today constituted a four-member Empowered Expert Committee, which is being entrusted to conduct the appraisal of applications for shortlisting 20 Institutions of Eminence. N Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissioner of India is the Chairperson of the committee.

  • Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu has emphasised that special and differential treatment remains a critical aspect of the WTO's framework and this is non-negotiable for India. Addressing a brainstorming meeting on WTO in the Post-MC11 Phase in New Delhi today, Mr Prabhu said, while some of the new issues being raised by other countries may also be of relevance to India but existing issues such as agriculture, livelihood issues are extremely important for the country.



  • CBI today arrested Vipul Ambani and four other senior executives of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi's companies in 11,400 crore rupees PNB fraud case.The agency had questioned Vipul Ambani yesterday who is the chief financial officer of Nirav Modi's Firestar International.



  • In Jammu and Kashmir, the critically injured BSF jawan in Pakistani sniper firing along the Line of Control in North Kashmir's Tangdar area of Kupwara has succumbed to injuries. A BSF spokesman told AIR that, Pakistani regulars violating cease fire today targeted a Constable of the BSF deployed in Forward Defence Location in Karnah Sector of Tangdar by sniping.

    Former world silver-medallist Saweety Boora and Meena Kumar Devi assured themselves of medals by entering the semifinals on a second successive day of mixed results for Indian boxers at the 69th Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria. Meena in 54 kg category defeated Italian Giulia Lamagna to make the last-four stage, along with Saweety, who outpunched American Leah Cooper in her quarterfinal bout in 75 kg category.




  • Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said, it should be ensured that cases like Punjab National Bank fraud do not repeat in future. Addressing a function in New Delhi, Mr Jaitley said, the government has given authority to bank management to work with autonomy but with greater accountability.




  • Cabinet today approved the proposal for constitution of Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal on request from Odisha. The tribunal shall determine water sharing among basin states on the basis of overall availability of water in the Mahanadi basin, the contribution of each state, present utilisation of water resources in each state and potential for future development.



  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) today told the Delhi High Court that the pleas of 20 AAP MLAs against their disqualification in an office-of-profit case is liable to be dismissed as they have challenged the ECI's opinion which has become non-existent after the President's decision. The Court was told by the poll panel's counsel Amit Sharma that the disqualified Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs have not challenged the January 20 Presidential Order by which the ECI's recommendation was accepted.




  • Maldives government today extended emergency in the country by a month, after parliament approved President Abdulla Yameen’s request. The state of emergency will end on March 22.

AIR correspondent reports that sleuths of the agency opened the lockers owned by the family members of Kothari in different banks at Kanpur in the presence of his wife and took several documents in possession.




  • Facing the prospect of punitive actions, Pakistan has sent a top official to plead its case at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting in Paris that will take up a US-sponsored resolution to put Islamabad on a list of countries that financially support terrorism. A media report said today that Pakistan has sent Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Miftah Ismail to attend the FATF meeting at a time when the activities of Hafiz Saeed's Jamaat-ud-Dawa and the Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation have created problems for the Pakistan government.

    Indian women's cricket team is on the brink of history when they face South Africa women in the fourth Twenty20 International match at SuperSport Park in Centurion tomorrow. A win in Centurion would give India an unassailable 3-1 series lead, making it the first time that India women have won two series on a single tour of South Africa.




  • The Cabinet has given its approval for creation of National Urban Housing Fund of 60 thousand crore rupees. The fund will be situated in Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
