    The Indian pair of Soumyajit Ghosh and G Sathiyan has entered the men's doubles final of the Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour Asarel Bulgaria Open table tennis competition. At Panagyurishte in Bulgaria today, the pair posted a comfortable three-game win over compatriots Anthony Amalraj and Sanil Shetty 11-3 12-10 11-8.

  • In Uttar Pradesh, seven time legislature and senior Samajwadi Party founder member Ashok Bajpai today joined ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at Lucknow in the presence of Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh and union minister Kalraj Misra.He had resigned from the membership of the Legislative Council and Samajwadi Party on August 9.



  • In Arunachal Pradesh, the 50 bedded Jarung Hospital of Palin Circle in Kra Dadi District has become the state’s first hospital to run completely on solar power energy. The 50 KW SPV plant set up has 160 solar panels, 120 batteries and one inverter.



  • In Maharashtra, the parents of a 13-year-old boy from Kalwa in Thane district, who was killed in an accident last year, were awarded 5 lakh rupees as compensation by the Motor Accident and Claims Tribunal (MACT). Thane Municipal Transport, TMT was directed to make the payment of the compensation along with 8 per cent interest from the date of filing of the claim in January this year..



  • “Sankalp Se Siddhi”- which commemorates 75 years of the Quit India Movement and the movement when the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation to take a pledge to create a New India that is strong, prosperous and all-encompassing should be made “as strong as the Quit India Movement”, stated MP of Shillong Vincent H Pala. Addressing the observation organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra at ICAR Umiam, in Ri Bhoi district, Pala also administered a pledge on ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’ to farmers to double their income by 2022.



  • In Chhattisgarh, at least 35 cows have starved to death in last four days in a cow shelter in Durg district's Rajpur village.Accused of serious carelessness, local political leader Harish Verma who was running this cattle shelter has been arrested.

    Indian challenge in the Cincinnati Masters has ended with Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mizra crashing out from the tournament in their respective doubles categories. Bopanna with his Croatian partner Ivan Dodig lost the quarterfinal to the wimbledon winner duo Marcelo Melo and Lukasz Kubot, 6-1,7-6, 10-7 in the men's doubles.

    Tamil Nadu Dhakhineshwar Suresh, seeded fifth, upset top-seed Parikshit Somani of Bengal 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the boys singles final of the Adidas MCC Junior National Clay Court Tennis Championship in Chennai today. In the final tomorrow, Suresh will take on fourth-seeded Abhimanyu Vannemreddy of Delhi, who got the better of unseeded Rhythm Malhotra 7-6, 6-3.

    India captain Virat Kohli continued to be the world's top-ranked One-day batsman in the latest ICC ODI rankings, released in Dubai today. Having 873 points in his kitty, Kohli will have a chance to increase the 12-point lead over second-placed Australian David Warner at the upcoming five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, starting in Dambulla on Sunday.



  • The National Disaster Response Force, NDRF has rescued 2863 persons and evacuated 66724 persons and 233 livestock so far in worst flood affected areas of Assam, Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. The disaster response force also provided medical assistance to 5669 persons during this monsoon season.

  • A South African Minister has resigned amid accusations he assaulted a woman in a nightclub earlier this month.Deputy Education Minister Mduduzi Manana appeared in court last week to face the assault charge.
